Friday Favorites…One Image, 2 Pieces of Art {The Woodlands, TX | Baby Photographer}

I’ve taken so many images, and have so many different favorites for so many various reasons.  Social media, internet, and web-based portfolios are all great; but this online world we live in sometimes leads things to be a bit less personal.  I believe that every image has a story to tell, and that’s what I love doing for my clients so much!  I don’t always get a chance to tell the story behind every image though–what I love about it, what makes it special to me.  So, I thought I would start a weekly blog post that featured one of my favorite images…deconstructed.  The story behind it, the reasons I love it (whether they are technical reasons of lighting/composition/etc., or emotional ones about what and why the image makes me feel).  So check back every week–some of these shares will be personal ones, and others will come from clients’ sessions past and present…one of your images might be featured here!

I love this image because I feel like I’m right there with them again, at that place, that time, that moment.  And then when it’s turned into black and white….

I feel like everything BUT that moment is stripped away.  It doesn’t matter anymore when it was or where it was.  All that’s left is that moment between mother and child, and it becomes less of a visual art, and more of an emotional one.

Not that color images can’t be super emotional as well, or that black and white will instantly turn a photograph into something deeper, but sometimes on certain images it has that affect to me.  And it stops me in my tracks and makes my heart swell, so I thought I would share :).  Happy Friday everyone!

Friday Favorites…Brotherly Bond {The Woodlands, TX | Baby Photographer}

In case you missed this one from his full post earlier this week…I obviously love this shot :).  I love that Mom and Dad will be able to go back and see about how much this little guy weighed at this point, I love the reflection on the floor (I’m a sucker for a reflection :)), and I love that I made that flag bunting all by myself :)–and I am not a crafty person.  I had this image in my head for a while, and I was so glad that Baby B was so cooperative during his session that I got the chance to create it.  Sometimes when you have an image in your head for a while, the real thing just doesn’t meet the standards you’ve set for it.  This time it turned out exactly how I wanted it to, and it makes me smile :).

It’s been a while since I put up a Friday Favorites–busy season is definitely here!  But I thought this recent image was perfect for it :).  Brotherly love–a bond they might not even realize they have yet.  They will always be there for each other, need each other, and look out for each other.  I have a sibling, and I know first hand how special this bond can be :).  Happy Friday everyone!

Friday Favorites…Baby Smiles {The Woodlands, TX | Baby Photographer}

They are elusive, a bit rare.  You can’t ask a newborn to smile for you, and no amount of foolishness (which I’m quite prone to do to get that smile from an older baby) is going to bring one on.  That’s why I love it so much when I capture a quick smile from a tiny newborn.  Natural, pure, completely real, and it always makes me wonder what exactly they’re dreaming about.  Tricks to capturing a baby smile?  Mostly patience and quick fingers…but it helps to be ready when you see them start making other faces in their sleep and you can tell they are starting to slip into that really deep sleep–that’s usually when a quick smile might flash by.  If you see a sad looking frown/silent cry face in their sleep–don’t put the camera down waiting for it to pass, but instead be prepared and ready to go, a smile sometimes follows quickly :).  Happy Friday everyone, and have a great weekend!

The S Family…Surrounded by Boys :) {The Woodlands, TX | Family Photographer}

I can’t imagine being  Mrs. S, Mom of three boys full of energy all day long!  Being the only woman in the house, I’m sure she’s got to be pretty tough to survive all of that testosterone on a regular basis :).  You can tell that she loves being surrounded by her boys though…each and every one of them!  Thanks to the S Family for a fun-filled and energy packed session!

Friday Favorites…Snapshots are Cool {The Woodlands, TX | Photographer}

Snapshots ARE cool :).  And so is “magic”.  My son has a fabulous imagination, and he gets really excited about new things.  He recently discovered “magic tricks” and we took a trip to the library to get him some books on simple magic tricks.  Thumbing through one of the (many) books, I came across this one and felt like a kid again myself when I pulled it off :).  Plus, it really makes my day when my boy thinks I’m super cool–at least for a few minutes :).  And yes, that’s him in the background–truly in awe of my “magic”!  Happy Friday everyone…I hope you have a magical weekend yourself!

Friday Favorites…The Most Genuine Smile {The Woodlands, TX | Baby Photographer}

Undoubtedly, the most genuine smile you will ever see will come from a 6 month old baby. I’m quite certain they don’t know how to smile any other way.  And that is what I love about this image, and photographing this age in general.  They might not always smile for you, but whatever expression they give you is 100% real.  There are no “cheese” smiles yet, and there is not an ounce of fakeness to anything they do.  They simply are who they are, and show what they feel at all times.  I love it.  There is something so pure and innocent about the honest emotions of a 6 month old baby that lightens my heart and makes me smile.  Try smiling like a 6 month old today and see how good it makes you feel!  Happy Friday everyone!!

Well, if you’ve been following me for a bit, then you probably already know this is a favorite image of mine…it’s currently on my profile picture for my business page, and it was part of a post just featured on Inspire Me Baby.  I love window light–it can be a bit tricky at times, but it’s so worth it for the softness and the connection to the outside.  I love the closeness between Mom, Dad, and Baby here, as well as Baby’s sweet little smile.  It’s like she can tell she’s surrounded by the people who love her most!  Whether your Baby is big or small, don’t forget a little hug today if you can to let them know they are loved!  Happy Friday everyone!

I love the softness of the light at the end of this session, the beautiful backdrop of the farm, but most of all, I love the look on his face as he keeps an eye on that magical red balloon.  The way that simple things bring children such joy always brings a smile to my face…a sticker, an empty box, or a balloon–to them all of these things truly are pure magic waiting to happen :).  Happy Friday everyone, have a magical weekend!

This set of images makes me smile every time I look at them.  Do you know this age/stage–I call it the “ostrich stage”.  When they think that you can’t see them if they don’t see you :).  I love it, it cracks me up every time!  We were playing hide and seek during this session and that’s just what this little boy did–cover his eyes to make himself disappear.  I love the smile on his face when he “revealed” his hiding spot.  Children are such beautiful creatures–I love the way they see our world!  Happy Friday everyone!!
